Do you consider yourself an expertoyster opener? Are you the one your family and friends turn to during the festive season when it comes toopening dozens of oysters? Wait until you see the professionals at work! On Tuesday February 4, the final of the Championnat de France des Ecaillers 2025 will be held , and the event is open to the public.
To attend these events, organized by the Comité National de la Conchyliculture, France Ecaille (the national union of shellfish scalers), OPEF (l'Organisation des Poissonniers Ecailleurs de France) and UMIH (l'Union des Métiers et des Industries de l'Hôtelerie) among others, head for the Café Français on Place de la Bastille, from 2pm.
In all, 20 candidates, already champions and vice-champions in their own region, will be competing for the national medal. Three tests will determine the winner: speed in opening oysters, a "surprise" test, and the creation of a seafood buffet on the theme, this year, of Valentine's Day.
The event is open to the general public free of charge, and the curious can even sample oysters and seafood platters for free, while cheering on the shuckers vying for the medal!
