It's a name that Japanese diners already know well. For its first foray into Europe, amam dacotan chose to plant its flag in Paris, specifically in the 11th arrondissement. In this charming boutique, gourmets can discover a wide range of breads, including the famous Melon Pan, as well as brioche-style sandwich bread, and a few creations imagined especially for the capital, such as the mushroom sandwich. We take you on a tour.

If you’ve ever had the chance to visit Japan, you may already know amam dacotan. Born in 2015 in Fukuoka, this Japanese brand—with three storefronts in the Land of the Rising Sun—has decided to push new boundaries and open its first European store. So it’s in Paris that amam dacotan has made its home since June 20, 2026. To mark the moment, the brand chose a lively, central quarter: Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, in the 11th arrondissement.

We discover a charming boutique during our visit. Between stone, wood, and greenery, the shop also reveals an enticing counter where the products are neatly displayed. Just behind, we glimpse the staff busy crafting the day's creations. Unfortunately, there isn't enough room inside to sample these breads and other pastries on site. But amam dacotan has thought of everything and has set up a lovely terrace right in front, where a few visitors are already seated this Monday morning.

Let's return to the savory and sweet offerings that should satisfy every craving. The house offers around fifty references on site. The menu is posted at the entrance for the curious, and naturally the breads are baked in-house by the team. With this impressive array of products, it isn’t always easy to navigate. But don’t hesitate to ask the staff for guidance—they’ll be happy to answer your questions.

If the shop stocks a few classics (in small batches), such as the mini baguette, rustic loaf, whole-wheat sandwich bread, or even country bread, the brand amam dacotan is above all known for its original recipes, far from traditional French breads.

Among the best-sellers, you’ll find the Mentai cream baguette Peperoncino (mentai is a product based on salted, spicy cod roe), as well as the famous Melon pan and the teriyaki pork burger. Several varieties of sandwich bread are also sold on site, including the whole chocolate sandwich loaf or the domed sandwich loaf.

And that's not all, amam dacotan also entices diners with its pastries and other sweets, such as the pain perdu (French toast), the nama donut au matcha, the Shiro-an with its pastry cream, and the anpan (a Japanese pastry filled with anko, a sweet azuki bean paste) or its tempting sandwiches, including the one with pork sausage or the one with a mimosa egg and mayonnaise. Generously loaded, one can’t help but wonder how easy they are to eat.

Several exclusive dishes have been developed for this inaugural Parisian outpost, including a mushroom sandwich.

There’s no way to leave this shop empty-handed. We’re also tempted by the famous baguette made with cod roe marinated in chili sauce. Surprising, but incredibly tasty, this is one of the house’s signature items. Another bread we tried that day? The one made with hojicha tea and chestnuts. A small pastry that’s easy and quick to bite into.

We also fell for the four-cheese croque-monsieur, a real treat, but it was a bit small. We would have loved to have more.

What can we say about the 'Pistache Premium'? Also a staple of the amam dacotan lineup, this pistachio-cream-filled brioche is to die for, so much so that sharing it is almost impossible.

Finally, we’re also smitten with the Bostock. For this French specialty, traditionally a slice of brioche soaked in syrup and topped with almond cream, amam dacotan has chosen to reinvent it with matcha and chestnuts or raspberries depending on the day and the season. On the pricing side, it runs a bit higher than in a traditional bakery, but it’s worth the detour. Expect, for example, 4.20 euros for a slice of pain perdu, 6.50 euros for the teriyaki pork burger, 4.80 euros for the Pistache Premium, 3.80 euros for the Bostock, 3.90 euros for the four-cheese croque-monsieur, and 3.30 euros for the Melon pan.

You’ve got it: amam dacotan has plenty of imagination and is all about reinventing bread in every form, inviting customers on a delicious gourmet journey. Note that the shop adjusts its hours for the summer season. Amam dacotan is thus open from Friday to Tuesday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
