For a few years now, gourmets have understood that fast food wasn't just Mc Donalds, and that burgers could be of premium quality. This is the case at King Marcel, which opened two new locations in 2018: one in Paris, in the corner of Lafayette, the other in Levallois-Perret, in the 92 department.
So, on a chilly evening, we went to try out this 9th arrondissement address. 240m2 of modern, urban furnishings, neon lights, a contemporary French bistro style, and a pretty 40-seat terrace.
On the menu at King Marcel are 6 burgers, all cleverly named after a famous Marcel. There's the Marcel Pagnol (chicken cutlet, fresh goat's cheese, green pesto, fresh tomatoes, basil and pickled red peppers), the Marcel Duchamp (Limousin beef, IGP French Emmental, lettuce hearts, fresh tomatoes, house sauce and grilled bacon), the Marcel Jackson, a French twist on a famous American singer (Limousin beef, aged red cheddar, fried onions, bacon and house barbecue sauce)...
As for Marcel du Marché, it's a burger that changes every two or three weeks. The day we came, it was Limousin beef, peasant bacon, Norman camembert, spinach shoots and old-fashioned mustard sauce. Mouth-watering!
As you'll have gathered, King Marcel focuses on good French produce: the meats are top-notch, as are the cheeses, and the sauces are homemade, as are the fries and the lemonade - excellent, by the way.
And vegetarians won't be outdone either, as all the burgers on the menu can be customized in a veggie version, with a homemade veggie patty as the steak.
We tried the Marcel Cerdan (Limousin beef, raclette AOP, onion confit, grilled brisket, gherkins and homemade ketchup) and the Marcel Michelin (Limousin beef, Saint-Nectaire AOP, country bacon, homemade mustard cream and chives), and we loved them.
There are three formulas to choose from, depending on the size of your hunger: the classic formula at €12.90, which includes a burger + small fries or green salad + drink; the King formula at €15.90, with a "king" burger (350g of meat and even more ingredients than in the classic formula) + a large fry or green salad + drink; and the Petit Marcel formula at €9.90, for smaller hungers.
Let us tell you, the King formula is ultra generous. It's hard to beat!
King Marcel is one of the best alternatives to your fast food cravings. Generous, high-quality, homemade and filled with the finest French produce, King Marcel 's burgers are a must-taste!
