Last night, Tuesday June 19, 2018, the greatest stars of the world’s gastronomy were gathered together on the occasion of the ceremony awarded the best restaurants in the world: The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018.
If the winner 2018 is Italian chef Massimo Bottura, the Osteria Francescana in Modena, French chefs are far from being left over. The three-colored nation count 5 restaurants among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018 prize list, including 2 in the top 10!
So, Mirazur, in Menton, has been ranked second, while Arpège (Paris) wins the 8th place. Plaza Athénée, managed by Alain Ducasse, is 21st, Alléno Paris at Pavillon Ledoyen is 29th and Septime wins the 40th place.
The pastry’s prodigy, Cédric Grolet, already last year’s World’s Best Pâtissier, has also been awarded the same title again last night. With Dominique Ansel and Pierre Hermé, he is the only French pastry chef to have won this prestigious award!
Also, note that new nations have entered these exceptional rankings, such as Slovenia with Hiša Franko (48th) which chef Ana Roš won back in 2017 the World’s Best Female Chef award. Mikla, Istanbul (44th) and Maaemo, Oslo (35th) make Turkey and Norway come back in the ranking after being absent for over 15 years.
