Surgical masks still cost 95 cents per piece, maximum, until January 10, 2021. A decree has extended the control of the price of masks and hand-sanitizer. This extension comes in as France has just exited health emergecny.

Since this past May 11, protective facemasks are mandatory in public transportation as well as in main stores. Many French are also wearing a mask when going out in order to be protected from Covid-19.

Available on sale in pharmacies, tobacco stores and even supermarkets, these masks are reusable (non-surgical cloth facemasks) or disposable, the famous surgical masks. If rates for the cloth ones reach no ceiling, the price for surgical facemasks is limited to 95 cents per piece, for those sold by the piece, and 80 cents if they are sold in bulk, and this since May 2nd, thanks to a decree published in the Journal Officiel. This control was said to end on at the same time health emergency ends, that is to stay up to July 10, 2020, but it has been extended by a decree, up to January 10, 2021. It will enable to prevent prices from skyrocketing as masks remain mandatory for anyone over 11 years old in many circumstances.

This new decree released on Saturday also extends the control of hand-sanitizer prices: 2.64 euros for a bottle of 100ml, and 1.76 euro for a 50ml bottle, bottles of 300ml still cost 4.40 euros.
