Covid: restaurants, museums, bars, movie theaters, gyms... to reopen from mid-May?

As cultural life is almost at a standstill for months, and that restaurants, gyms, bars, places of nightlife are closed for even longer, Emmanuel Macron has just given hope to the French: in his address on March 31, the French President announced the reopening agenda of all these places will start on May 15, 2021.

Covid-19-related data are very worrying. Which led the government to instate new restrictions starting April 3 and at least until May 2, 2021. Mainland France is entering its third lockdown. Bars, restaurants, gyms, museums, theaters, movie theaters, nightclubs... All these places of life have to remain close for another month. Yet, after months without prospects, President Macron gives some hope.

During his address on March 31, 2021, the French President announced the reopening of these cultural places could start from May 15. "I will return to you soon to give details of a reopening schedule for everyone to get prospects. From mid-May, we will start reopening some cultural places. We will allow - under conditions - the opening of terraces, and we will build between mid-May and early summer, a progressive reopening schedule for culture, sport, leisure, events, cafés and restaurants", the Head of State explained.

Faced with the third Covid-19 epidemic wave, Emmanuel Macron addressed the French this Wednesday March 31, 2021. The French President assessed the worrying evolution of the country's health situation. Therefore, the Head of State has called lockdown extended to the entire mainland country - and no longer to 19 departments only -, along with the closure of schools for three weeks, "systematic" working from home, as well as a detailed vaccination calendar. So, what is expected to open and when? Even though nothing has been officially announced yet, we can estimate reopenins will take place between mid-May and early July.

Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot said over and over again museums will be some of the first to reopen. And we can reasonnably think museums, monuments, castles, abbayes, and other heritage facilities could open from May 15. Different sources close to the government also announce movie theatersnon-necessary stores and terraces might be the first places to reopen in May.
