From March 13 to June 30, 2019, the Musée du Luxembourg is devoting an exhibition to Nabi decorative art, a post-Impressionist avant-garde movement born on the bangs of academic painting.

With its exhibition Les Nabis et le décor, the Musée du Luxembourg focuses on the work of décor in the paintings of the Nabis, this movement that broke the codes of painting, from March 13 to June 30, 2019.

This exhibition promises to dissect the decor represented by the Nabis in 89 works, from Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis and Edouard Vuillard, all of whom gave importance to decor in their works. Here, we discover flowered wallpaper, women in gardens, Japanese scenery, all elements that are normally the"fundamental principle of the unity of creation".

Except that, while these elements are part of the overall current of renewal initiated by the Nabis, who wanted a"specific experience of total art" rooted in"a dialogue between artists and a shared admiration for the art of Japan", they are not. Prints, tapestry, screens, stained glass, wallpaper... The media they used enabled them to broadentheir "technical experience" in the field of painting and to develop"a new stylistic grammar" accessible to all, for an art form that brings Beauty into the home on a daily basis.

For the first time, compositions scattered over time are brought together in Paris, for a more comprehensive presentation of these painters' work. The exhibition offers a fresh look at the furniture art of the period, but remains, urgently to be complemented by the small but very fine exhibition on theNabi masterpiece, Sérusier's "Talisman", presented from January 29 to June 2, 2019 at the Musée d'Orsay.

Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
