The Place de la Concorde will soon get all its former splendor back. As the different buildings surrounding it get renovated, this beautiful panorama was kind of spoiled by the scaffoldings. After the reopening of the Hotel de Crillon in 2017, it is time for its twin building to be unveiled. Starting from June 12, 2021, you can discover the Hotel de la Marine. You can book admission tickets on the online ticketing service now.
After the Chief of Navy left in 2015, renovations started in 2017. The aim? Opening the Hotel de la Marine to the general public. If the main courtyard and its galleries will be open for free, becoming the promise of a new starting point for your Parisian strolls, tours will enable you to know more about its history.
As soon as you get in, be delighted by the new glass ceiling designed by architects Hugh Dutton & Associés.
Three tours will take you to the discovery of this Parisian heritage. A short tour will show the formal lounges (19th century) as well as the loggia. The historic tour will take you to the heart of the 18th century with the steward’s apartments. An immersive experience is also planned in the apartments of Madame Thierry de Ville d’Avray.
The third tour is set in the former tapestry room of the furniture stor and the room of the Navy’s operational command center welcomes the Al Thani collection. At the pace of exhibitions, discover some of the 6000 works of art from the Antiquity to nowadays.
All along your visit, whather tour you chose, you are now accompanied by the Confident, an innovative connected headset taking you on an exclusive immersive stroll. This headset offers a binaural sound experience and interact with mediation in the rooms. Sound is played automatically depending on the place you are and makes you feel like you are back to the time of the Court in the 18th century, featuring music, talks, people, everyday sound...
The culinary heritage will also be given pride of place since three mouthwatering spots will honor your taste buds. First, we have a restaurant which menu has been put up by Jean-François Piège, a café on the ground floor and on the first floor will be set a Musiam by Ducasse Culture food area.
Even though the reopening of the place has been delayed (it was initially planned for July 2020), the wait is worth it. This impressive renovation enabled to get the former volumes of the hotel back, renovate many traces from decorations dating back to the Ancien Régime.
Craftsmen intended to apply methods to highlight these treasures. Therefore, you can discover wainscoting in the golden cabinet, former rococo and neo-classical decors with woodworks, overdoors and well-kept mantelpieces. Here and there, you can lay eyes on faux marble on the baseboards, paintings on shutters or lattice patterned decor with roses.
The Hôtel de la Marine is also expected to open with a whole range of authentic furniture. The Mobilier national, the Louvre, the Arts et Métiers, the musée des Arts décoratifs, the Palace of Versailles and the Manufacture de Sèvres are expected to give 250 pieces of furniture, original items and fabrics to fill in the freshly renovated rooms.
Head of the Conservation of the Centre des Monumentions Nationaux Delphine Christophe adds in Connaissance des arts that "90% of our furniture will be renovated with fabrics from the 18th century. And for the Chambre de Thierry de Ville-d'Avray, we found the blacksmith lamp by Tassinari and Chatel identical to the door curtain that adorned this room and that now belongs to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston".
So, who will be there when this magnificent place reopens?
