Art and fashion lovers are expected at the Fondation Lafayette Anticipations from March 5 to May 16, 2021 to discover an exhibition about Martin Margiela’s work. An exhibition focusing here on Martin Margiela as an artist and not the fashion designer.

Fashion-addicts and art lovers, save the date! The Fondation Lafayette Anticipations invites you to discover Martin Margiela in a new light thanks to an exhibition devoted to the Belgian designer running from March 5 to May 16, 2021. A retrospective focusing more on the artist than the fashion designer with colorful works some being produced by the foundation.

Works displayed for the very first time by the designer and the cultural institution showing he’s also an artist. Drawings, sculptures and collages… As many materials that have influenced his haute-couture creations and displayed here for an exclusive look on his universe.

A fashion designer that quickly got interested in art. Martin Margiela starts his designing career in the 80’s when he becomes assistant in 1984 at Jean-Paul Gaultier’s. A very strict universe he joins after graduating in 1980 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. But this haute-couture genius craves more and in 1988, he creates his own designer house. A house he’ll leave in 2008 to only devotes himself to art creations, far from fashion. And creations we should see in this exhibition.

The occasion to discover Margiela’s work and see “as a total artistic approach”. Let’s go, friends, shall we?
