There are days we just want to go away for the afternoon, or the day, just to unwind. And to enjoy a wonderful haven of peace you do not always have to go to the other side of the world. In the Paris region, there are some magical places where time seems to be on hold. And one of them is the Roseraie de Provins – or the Provins Rose Garden.
Provins is a medieval city stuck in time that is worth the trip for many reasons. Listed as UNESCO World Heritage, this city in Seine-et-Marne attracts visitors wishing to discover the city and its unique entertainments.
Whether you want to walk along the ramparts, attend a falconry show or a horse show, discover the mysterious undergrounds, visits buildings from the Middle-Ages, or discover craftsmen and women and ancestral know-how, so are some of the many reasons to discover this magnificent city with remarkable preserved heritage.
And among all these gems, the Provins Rose Garden is worth the trip. Listed as Jardin Remarquable (Remarkable Garden), you will discover 450 species of roses in a bucolic swirl of colors, sometimes surprising, and which iconic flower remains the famous Rose de Provins.
As soon as you get in, through the store-tearoom, you are warned: “don’t hesitate to walk in the grass to get close to the flowers”.
A piece of advice highly appreciated: as soon as you see this gorgeous fresh and soft grass, you cannot resist but walk barefoot and have a seat. But the beautiful roses steal the show. Growing from the ground or along the beautiful arches, they vie to be the most beautiful and fill the air with their scent. This is a genuine enchanted garden covering 3.5 hectares and we discover as if we were in wonderland.
After a bush, small wooden-sculpted mushrooms. In the middle of the roses, a wrought iron bench… As we discover ancient and modern varieties creating this beautiful rose garden, we are genuinely surprised.
In turns, we discover a green house, we venture around a real-life maze, we cross small bridges above water and we lay on a deckchair, listening to the turtledoves. When we tell you that this is a haven of peace, we know what we say!
Here time flies and we do not see it. And when you are almost sad because you are done visiting, give a go to the tearoom! Is there something more appropriate to end this enchanted beak than with some delicious rose ice cream? A wonderful way to finish your visit on a sweet note!
