Care for teddy bears? That's what health students are proposing to raise children's awareness of how hospitals work, with the Teddy Bear Hospital.

Originating in Germany in the early 2000s, the Teddy Bear Hospital concept was born with a specific goal in mind: to introduce children to the world of hospitals, in order to reduce their fears surrounding this unknown universe. The concept was taken up by medical student associations in France in 2004, and every year they offer a number of voluntary dates in France to immerse pitchounes in the hospital environment without frightening them.

At l'Hôpital des nounours, students in white coats offer a genuine health course for children's teddies. Diagnosis, consultation, hygiene education... Children aged 5 to 7 can find out what it's like to visit a hospital, ask questions and, above all, look after their teddies throughout the initiative.

In Paris, the Teddy Bear Hospital is offered at several hospitals, including thePitié-Salpétrière Hospital, and welcomes school groups only. A visit is made to each class before they come to the Teddy Bear Hospital to introduce the project, and another once the visit has been completed to give the children advice and gather their impressions.

Upcoming dates for the Teddy Bear Hospital in Paris:

  • May 20, 21, 22 and 24
  • May 27, 28 and 29
  • June 10th to 14th
