Who hasn't heard of Versailles? Thanks to its rich history and famous château, this town in the Yvelines region of France attracts both French citizens and visitors from all over the world. But there's more to Versailles than its royal past. The town also looks to the present and the future, as demonstrated by these not-to-be-missed scientific events this autumn!
From October 3 to 13, 2025, curious people of all ages are invited to take part in a variety of events in Versailles. The town is taking part in the latest edition of the Fête de la Science. This major event is held every year in autumn, in many towns across France.
The aim of this event is to introduce the general public to the various scientific disciplines, major projects and discoveries made by French researchers, and - perhaps - to inspire new vocations in the younger generation. For ten days, hundreds of places of learning will be opening their doors to the public.
Guided tours, games, experiments, lectures, workshops: everything is done to make science accessible, and fun! Discover what awaits you at Versailles.
Old Post Office Library Heure joyeuse
During this workshop, little philosophers will develop a critical mind by asking themselves a big question: what is intelligence?
Choiseul Library
Practical workshop to discover Artificial Intelligence and better understand this tool, with its good and bad sides.
Porchefontaine Library
Manufacture of an astonishing optical device, the phenakistiscope, ancestor of the cartoon.
UVSQ Science Campus
Through games and comics, discover tomorrow's solutions for managing strategic gases, constructing more energy-efficient buildings, producing and storing greener energy, and recycling materials.
Board game
Thanks to a board game created by MaTerRE and animated by network researchers, you can discover materials from different angles, experiment and take up more than one challenge!
To play, all your senses are on alert: Touch through blind object discovery, analytical skills to understand the hidden meaning of an image or video (SEM photos, finding the differences between two images, experimental videos...) or to understand the usefulness and operation of unusual eco-responsible objects, practical sense in carrying out scientific experiments (filtering polluted water with activated carbon, making a car go faster with green H2, understanding how supercapacitors work...), or dexterity and a competitive spirit in challenges.
Memory
You're no doubt familiar with the principle of the famous Memory game: a deck of cards, made up of pairs of identical cards, is laid out on a table. The aim? Use your memory to find the identical cards in turn.
The DIM MaTerRE has developed a Memory game dedicated to its themes: each card features an image linked to the research carried out by DIM member teams.
Dobble
A game of speed, MaTerRE DIM's Dobble is a fun way to discover images, objects and words linked to our network's research, while awakening your competitive spirit.
Comic strip
Discover our comic strip in large format! It presents a project financed by the DIM and shows how new-generation porous materials can help to clean up indoor air, in particular by combating formaldehyde, a compound that is particularly harmful to health.
Lavoisier Institute
Researchers in chemistry, physics and mathematics open the doors of their laboratories. Join us for an afternoon of laboratory visits, experiments, demonstrations and games.
Workshops on the program: making slime fluorescent molecules hydrogen-powered car connected beehive odor lotto building candy molecules cutting the Möbius strip making regular polyhedra + Euler's formula etc.
Does your curiosity know no bounds? Here's our selection of not-to-be-missed events for this year's Fête de la Science in Paris and the Paris region.
