Tonnerre 2 Zeus at Parc Astérix: the new upside-down roller coaster

When it opened in 1997, Parc Asterix saw thrill-seeking fans flock to its vertiginous attraction. Today, more than 25 years later, Zeus' Thunder remains one of the park's flagship attractions. To restore its reputation and give it a facelift, the park has come up with a transformation of the famous coaster, which will reopen at the same time as the famous Gaulish amusement park on Saturday, April 9, 2022.

Located in the park's Ancient Greece zone, the former Thunder of Zeus attraction won theUltimate European Theme Parks Award 4 times in a row (between 2022 and 2005) in the"Best wooden roller coaster in Europe" category. Its update, renamed Tonnerre 2 Zeus, promises to be even more spectacular, with a 90° inclined hump unique in Europe and a host of other features designed to give users maximum thrills.

The program? A modified layout with some sensational features to boot:

• A 90° inclined bump, unique in Europe
• 2 high-speed turns
• 2 new bumps
• A new tunnel filled with special effects

Airtimes galore (14 seat lifts). Another major surprise is the ability to ride the train in reverse! Indeed, among the expected improvements, new carriages with enhanced comfort have been added (it's about time!), with the added bonus of the last two carriages being turned upside down for a breathtaking experience.

This promises to raise the hairs on the back of our heads as we await the arrival in 2024 of a brand new Toutatis zone located behind the Trace du Hourra. On the agenda: a big 8 offering a course that's unique in the world. Imagine a 120° drop at 110 km/h. Suffice it to say, it's going to be hair-raising! Add to that a store, a restaurant and a playground, and you've got a whole lot of fun!

And to mark the occasion, the statue of the Greek God that stands proudly at the entrance to the attraction has changed his wardrobe! Since May 14, 2022, Zeus has been wearing pink briefs adorned with plastic ducks. This is the design that won the most public votes among the 3 proposed on social networks. Internet users had to choose between ducks, eclairs and cherries. And if you too want to wear the panties like the God of Olympus, you can buy them, in Boxer or Tanga versions, in certain boutiques in the park or in Undiz stores.
