France celebrates its national holiday on July 14: every year, numerous events are organized around this emblematic date all over France. July 14 commemorates the storming of the Bastille during the French Revolution, and the symbolic defeat of the absolute monarchy by the revolutionary people.

To mark this important moment in French history, a number of traditional celebrations return each year: fireworks, military parades, concerts... Not forgetting the fire department balls. But what do firefighters have to do with this national holiday?

The story goes that the firemen's ball was born in Montmartre, in 1937: the firemen returned to their barracks from the military parade, singing and dancing. Crowds followed the festive firefighters, and an impromptu ball was organized in the barracks to prolong the national holiday celebrations. The idea caught on, and since then, firemen's balls have been held all over France for a whole night in July.

The firefighters of the 19th arrondissement are also joining in this tradition of the national holiday, and invite you to come dancing and have fun during the evening of Monday, July 13, 2026.
