Every 14 July, France marks its National Day by commemorating the Storming of the Bastille and the Festival of the Federation. In Paris, the day is defined by military parades, the popular balls, and fireworks, drawing citizens and visitors together in a festive yet solemn atmosphere.
On July 14, 1789, the storming of the Bastille symbolized the start of the French Revolution, marking the end of absolutism and the birth of popular sovereignty. A year later, on July 14, 1790, the Fête de la Fédération celebrated national unity. In 1880, this date officially became the French National Holiday, commemorating these two founding events of the Republic.
Popular dances, notably the firefighters' balls, are a well-established tradition that brings citizens together in a convivial atmosphere. These dances are often held in fire stations or on public squares, as a chance to dance and celebrate together.
In the Seine-Saint-Denis department, we’re heading over to Dugny!
