This year again, Heritage Days return to Paris and Île-de-France for a 43rd edition that promises a wealth of events. Every year, on the third weekend of September, this flagship event brightens the city’s post-summer period for Parisians. Visitors and locals are invited to explore the finest treasures of our heritage and enjoy a specially curated program.
Museums, monuments, castles, churches, hospitals, ministries, embassies and much more - many places play their part every year. On the menu: guided or self-guided tours, workshops for young and old, original events... and it's often all free! Perfect for exploring our heritage from every angle.
Educational institutions also in the spotlight. Indeed, Parisian schools sometimes hide treasures and historical vestiges within their walls that you’d be hard pressed to discover outside these special occasions. In the 6th arrondissement, a private establishment might surprise us. The École Alsacienne, renowned for its active pedagogy, spans several buildings, including a hôtel particulier with an eclectic brick-and-stone style. Want to learn more? Check out the program for the Journées du Patrimoine 2026, slated for 19 and 20 September.
Visit to the Alsacienne School
Founded in 1874 by Alsatian and Lorraine families who sought refuge after the 1871 annexation, the École alsacienne carries an inseparable history with the school of the Republic. As a private, contract-based, associative, secular and pluralist institution, it has built over the decades a tradition of intellectual excellence and pedagogical freedom, reflected in its buildings, its archives, and the living memory of its students and teachers.
On the occasion of European Heritage Days, the École alsacienne invites you to discover its spaces, its history, and the remarkable architecture of its Notre-Dame-des-Champs site. Guided tours will illuminate a place that, for more than 150 years, has nurtured an original pedagogical tradition.
This 2026 edition, themed around “Heritage of Photography” and “Heritage in Peril: Rekindle, Resist, Reimagine,” offers a chance to revisit the documents, portraits, and photographic testimonies that dot the history of our school.
