The Journées Européennes du Patrimoine 2025 is your ticket to the past, on September 20 and 21. Head for the Yvelines, for a bucolic getaway at La Datcha - musée Ivan Tourguéniev, a charming Swiss-Russian chalet tucked away in the heart of the Bougival woods. An opportunity to follow in the writer's footsteps, between nature, culture and old-fashioned charm.

Put away the dusty guidebooks and forget about over-formatted tours! The European Heritage Days, on September 20 and 21, 2025, will take you on an unprecedented journey to the heart of history. Created to bring the public closer to its heritage, this European event opens the doors of exceptional sites, sometimes closed the rest of the year, free of charge. The idea? Heritage Days return this year with an exceptional edition to be held on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026. This unmissable cultural event offers the chance to visit more than 1,500 sites across Paris and the Île-de-France region. While the major museums and iconic monuments are on the itinerary, the weekend is also a prime opportunity to uncover hidden, little-known, or normally off-limits places. [Read more]

One of this year's most inspiring stops in the Yvelines region (78) is La Datcha - Musée Ivan Tourguéniev, a literary treasure trove nestled in the woods of Bougival. Built in 1874, this chalet with its Swiss-Russian charm was thewriter's last home, divided between his creative work and his discreet relationship with Pauline Viardot. Classified as a Maison des Illustres in 2023, La Datcha tells a fascinating story: the first floor dining room evokes his struggles against slavery and the death penalty, as well as his exchanges with Zola, Maupassant and Dumas. In the grand salon, a forte piano, listed as a historic monument, bears witness to the Viardot couple's artistic soirées. Upstairs, the writer's study and bedroom - faithfully reconstructed - open onto a balcony with a direct view of the Villa Viardot.
