One of this year's most inspiring stops in the Yvelines region (78) is La Datcha - Musée Ivan Tourguéniev, a literary treasure trove nestled in the woods of Bougival. Built in 1874, this chalet with its Swiss-Russian charm was thewriter's last home, divided between his creative work and his discreet relationship with Pauline Viardot. Classified as a Maison des Illustres in 2023, La Datcha tells a fascinating story: the first floor dining room evokes his struggles against slavery and the death penalty, as well as his exchanges with Zola, Maupassant and Dumas. In the grand salon, a forte piano, listed as a historic monument, bears witness to the Viardot couple's artistic soirées. Upstairs, the writer's study and bedroom - faithfully reconstructed - open onto a balcony with a direct view of the Villa Viardot.
