In Paris, a shopkeeper had an unusual idea: to create a hydroalcoholic gel bar where customers can choose their fragrance and make their own solution. If the concept seduced, the adventure was nevertheless short-lived. Why was it so short-lived?

Paris is the city of all surprises and it is not uncommon to see unusual concepts emerge. The trend of customization, hyper-customization and DIY(Do It Yourself ) are often the magic recipe behind the most successful ideas.

At the time of decontamination, in a context ofcoronavirus epidemic, a Parisian shopkeeper will have thought of an original idea adapted to these unprecedented circumstances. After having seen the emergence of nail bars, eyebrow bars, smile bars or even hairdressing bars, here is that the capital welcomed its first hydroalcoholic gel bar.

Nestled in the 6th arrondissement, this unusual spot offered its customers to create their own hydroalcoholic gel by perfuming it with the fragrance of their choice out of the 14 available. Nevertheless, despite the success of this concept, the adventure will stop quickly. On July 2, 2020 the authorities put an end to the famous gel bar and the products were banned from sale.

The reason? The sale of hydroalcoholic gel is subject to an increasingly strict framework to protect consumers. The price has been capped but not only: since March 13, 2020 the name of the manufacturer, the date of manufacture, the batch number as well as warnings such as the mention "inflammatory product" must appear on the product.

Since May 31, 2020, the alcohol concentration must also be mentioned so that consumers can distinguish between biocidal and virucidal gels. In order to fight against the coronavirus epidemic, it is recommended to use a virucidal gel with more than 60% of alcohol. Some brands have also been recalled because of non-compliance. In the case of the famous gel bar, this information would not have been mentioned on the products which were sold there.
