The croissant, symbol of French culinary savoir-faire par excellence, is on a roll. For several years now, the croissant has been reinvented thanks to the sometimes overflowing creativity of certain bakers. But for many, the butter croissant remains THE benchmark; the viennoiserie that people love to enjoy without any hang-ups at breakfast. In fact, the croissant is the most widely consumed Viennese pastry in France!
But which Parisian bakeries offer the best butter croissants? The answer was provided by the "Syndicat des Boulangers du Grand Paris ", which unveiled the 2025 rankings for the best Charentes-Poitou PDO butter croissant competition for bakers in Greater Paris, on Tuesday May 6 at 12 noon during the Fête du Pain.
Once again this year, numerous croissants were produced by artisan bakers from the four departments of Greater Paris (75, 92, 93 and 94). They were then tasted and judged on April 10. Several criteria were taken into account to determine the winner, including taste, of course, but also flakiness, smell and color.
So, drum roll... The best croissant au beurre 2025 in Greater Paris can be found in the Hauts-de-Seine region, at the Des racines et du pain bakery in Clamart. Basile Fourmont won first prize in the competition, with a curved croissant that won over the entire jury! The artisan baker had already won first prize for the best traditional French baguette in the Greater Paris region on May 4.
Second place went to Mickaël Reydellet of the La Parisienne bakery in Paris's 10th arrondissement. Finally, the Mille et Un bakery in the 6th arrondissement takes 3rd place, thanks to Yongsang Seo.
5 other Parisian bakers feature in this top 10 list of the best Charentes-Poitou PDO butter croissants in Greater Paris 2025. Let's discover them!
Congratulations to the winner and all the participants!
