Sad news for many heavy metal fans. Ozzy Os bourne died on Tuesday July 22, 2025 at the age of 76. The announcement was made by his family via the publication of a statement. " It is with a sadness that words cannot express that we must announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne died this morning. He was surrounded by family and love," wrote his wife Sharon and children. " We ask everyone to respect our family's privacy at this time," they added.
The British singer, legendary leader of the legendary Black Sabbath band, had appeared tired in recent years. Since 2020, he had been battling Parkinson's disease. The artist, nicknamed"The Prince of Darkness ", was forced to cancel his European tour, dubbed"No More Tours 2", in early 2023.
Ozzy was born in Birmingham, UK, on December 3, 1948. Ozzy Osbourne soon set his sights on a career in music. After touring with The Approach, the British singer founded Black Sabbath in 1968 with Terence Butler, aka Geezer. For many, this band would become one of the founders and precursors of heavy metal.
Alongside Black Sabbath, Ozzy Os bourne contributed to no less than nine albums, mainly produced between 1968 and 1978. These albums are recognized by many fans as classics of the genre. These include"Black Sabbath","Paranoid" (featuring the legendary hit"War Pigs"),"Master of Reality","Vol. 4","Sabbath Bloody Sabbath","Sabotage10","Technical Ecstasy","Never Say Die!" and"13", released in 2013.
In 1979, Ozzy Ozbourne left Black Sabbath and quickly embarked on a solo career. In 1980, he unveiled"Blizzard of Ozz", his first solo studio opus. This was followed by 12 more albums, including the Grammy Award-winning"Patient Number 9", released in 2022.
Ozzy Os bourne's musical career and personal life have also been marked by his many escapades and problems with drugs and alcohol. It was for this reason that he earned the nickname"The Prince of Darkness".
Ozzy Osbourne also made a name for himself in 2002 with a reality show devoted to the daily life of the artist and his family (his wife Sharon, daughter Kelly and son Jack), entitled"The Osbournes".
Despite the many controversies surrounding Ozzy, the singer has won numerous awards and distinctions over the course of his career. In 1994, for example, he won a Grammy Award for"I Don't Want to Change the World", taken from the"Live and Loud" album, in the " Best Metal Performance " category. In 2002, he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2006, he was inducted into the AmericanRock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler. In 2016, a streetcar was even named in his honor in his hometown of Birmingham!
On July 5, Ozzy Os bourne bid farewell to the stage at a huge concert in Birmingham with Black Sabbath. The event brought together a number of leading metal bands and artists, including Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Halestorm, Yungblud and Alice In Chains. A film of the concert is due to be released on the big screen in early 2026.
Although many knew he had been weak and tired for some time,Ozzy Os bourne fans are now in mourning following the announcement of the death of this heavy metal legend, who leaves behind a rich musical legacy.
