Paris 2024: the Paris ring road and 185 kilometers of major roads restricted during the event

Traffic on the roads and on public transport is likely to be disrupted during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 185 kilometers of roads and three-quarters of the ring road will be restricted during the event.

If you don't want to struggle to get around during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we'd advise you to get out of the capital during the event. In fact, according to France 3, 185 kilometers of roads in the Île-de-France region, including three-quarters of the ring road, will be closed from July 1, 2024 to September 15, 2024. These roadways will be reserved exclusively for persons accredited by the International Olympic Committee - athletes , cabs, public transport vehicles, rescue workers and journalists - from 6 a.m. to midnight.

These routes will become "Olympic lanes", according to the government decree of May 4, 2022. Although this represents less than 1% of the Paris region's road network, motorists are likely to experience worse-than-usual traffic jams, as one lane will be completely inaccessible. And that's the whole point: to limit traffic on the roads and freeways of the Paris region during the Olympic and Paralympic period. Traffic restrictions around the Olympic venues will also be in place during rush hour.

Public transport will also face difficulties, as users continue to experience delays and operational problems since the start of the 2022 school year. In addition, due to construction delays, many of the new metro stations planned for the Olympic Games will not be ready in time. Parisians are therefore expecting traffic to be particularly heavy during the event, given the number of tourists expected.
