It's a view you'll have to get used to. The impressive façade of the Opéra Garnier is currently covered with scaffolding. Renovation work on the building will begin in April, but the scaffolding has already been erected, and has been standing since February 21. They will remain so for a long time, until the end of 2024. In a few weeks, a billboard will cover the construction.
The latter is used to finance part of the work. Worth 7.2 million euros, they aim to thoroughly renovate the facade of the building, whose interior can still be visited. It will be cleaned and depolluted, while the gilding will be redone.
Unfortunately for visitors, the magnificent view of the Opera Square will be unavailable for many months. And the result will not even be admired by the tourists of the Olympic Games next year. On the other hand, the Opera's shows will continue to be performed. At the moment, for example, you can admire the George Balanchine ballet.
