The American cemetery of Suresnes, located on Mont Valérien, celebrates this Monday, March 6 a special event, a centennial even. By candlelight, discover this place of military commemoration, exceptionally illuminated this Monday, from 7 to 9 pm.

This Monday, March 6, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., an unusual vigil will take place at the Suresnes American Cemetery, the monument located on the hillside of Mont Valérien, as it will be illuminated by hundreds of electric candles, to commemorate a very special event.

This Monday, March 6, marksthe centennial of the American Battle Monument's Commission, an agency that oversees U.S. military cemeteries overseas, established in 1923. The organization maintains, honors and commemorates American soldiers who have fallen in major world conflicts. There are a total of 12 American military cemeteries in France, including two in the Île-de-France region: Suresnes American Cemetery and Lafayette Escadrille Memorial Cemetery, in Saint-Cloud Park

The Suresnes American Cemetery has 1,565 military graves, each of which will be lit with candles during the commemoration on Monday, March 6. The celebration is thus an opportunity to discover this cemetery, usually only open during the day, in its nocturnal mode and by candlelight (electric so as not to damage anything). It is also a moment of recollection, during which visitors can visit the cemetery, but which nevertheless recalls and pays tribute to the human losses that resulted from each world conflict.
