As 2023 draws to a close, the number of gourmet contests for the best almond galettes is on the rise. After the best galette in Greater Paris, the best galette in Val-d'Oise and the best galette in Seine-et-Marne, now comes the national competition for the best almond galette, otherwise known as the best almond galette in France, 2024 edition!
Organized by the Confédération nationale de la Boulangerie-Pâtisserie française, this second edition of the competition saw no fewer than 20 candidates from all over France take part on December 4 and 5 in Indre-et-Loire. For 6 hours, spread over 2 days, the finalists spared no effort in presenting two 30 cm-diameter galettes. The jury based its decision on a number of criteria, including baking, almond cream or frangipane, puff pastry, gilding and, of course, taste!
After deliberation, Frédéric Alvergnas from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region was the overall winner of this 2nd edition of the national competition for the best almond galette.
Rest assured, the Île-de-France region is well represented this year by Sylvain Le Maux. The artisan baker, based in L'Isle-Adam, Val-d'Oise, took second place on the podium and became runner-up in France! His galette des rois, available from January 2024 at the Aux 3 petits choux bakery (8 avenue Michel Poniatowski), is the second best in France!
Akim Bouhadda, from Maison Marquise in Chevilly-Larue, was also a finalist in the competition. His almond galette won first prize for the best almond galette in Greater Paris, 2023 edition.
