Due to major renovation work, the Centre Pompidou in Paris is forced to close its doors for five years. While the building's metamorphosis is due to begin at the end of September 2025, the various areas of Beaubourg will close gradually. Find out more about the timetable for these forthcoming closures before the work begins.

When will the Centre Pompidou close its doors to the public? That's the question many people are asking, and many modern art lovers are dreading the moment. After all, the entire site will be closed for 5 years. The work promises to be long and laborious, and will involve "the renovation and removal of asbestos from all facades, fire safety measures, improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility, and energy optimization of the entire building ".

So, when will Beaubourg cease to welcome the public? First of all, you should know that the closure will be carried out gradually, in several stages. The auditoriums have been inaccessible since January. On Sunday March 2, 2025, it will be the turn of the Bpi, the Centre Pompidou's famous public information library, to close its doors to the public, before an announced move to the 12th arrondissement.

On the evening ofMonday March 10, the rooms dedicated to the museum's permanent collection, located on levels 4 and 5 of the building, were closed.

According to France Bleu, renamed"Ici", the lights are due to go out in galleries 1, 2, 3 and 4 from the evening of June 30. By the end of June 2025, only level 2 of Beaubourg should still be accessible, with the carte blanche show by German artist Wolfgang Tillmans, scheduled to run until September 22.

The complete closure of the building to the public is scheduled for the end of September 2025. Removal of the works will then begin, and should be completed by December 2025, before work begins in April 2026. The project is expected to take 5 years to complete, with the Centre Pompidou and Bpi scheduled to reopen in 2030.
