The bathing on the Marne at Joinville-le-Pont, in the Val-de-Marne (94), is gearing up for a return this summer 2026. The department’s new prefect, Stanislas Bourron, has announced the season dates: the Joinville-le-Pont beach, set on the sandbank at the marina, will welcome swimmers from Saturday, June 20 to Monday, August 31, 2026, opening at the same time as its neighbor in Maisons-Alfort. A welcome bit of news for Île-de-France residents, especially since this beach is just a short walk from the RER A, on the edge of the Bois de Vincennes.
The Paris Est Marne & Bois area, which runs the site in partnership with the City, kicks off the season on June 20, 2026 with an open day starting at 4 p.m., free entry and a program of activities. The beach will then be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. As the historic cradle of the riverbank guinguettes, Joinville-le-Pont is reconnecting with a century-old tradition: people came to swim there and dance long before the 1970 ban, and the spirit of Chez Gégène is never far away.
Located at 2 quai Gabriel Péri, 94340 Joinville-le-Pont, the site offers two separate pools for adults and children, continuously supervised by lifeguards, with sunbeds available free of charge depending on availability. Reservations can be made online via the Marne Bois Plages (À la Plage by Paris Est Marne & Bois) platform up to four days before the desired slot, or on-site the same day subject to space, with payment by card or cash.
Prices: 3 euros for local residents (proof of address required), 8 euros for external visitors, and 10 euros for large families. Access is free for children under 4 and for accompanied disabled people. Note that anyone under 16 must be accompanied.
As with Maisons-Alfort, the Joinville-le-Pont pool this year unveils a system of swimming in filtered river water, a first in France: water drawn from the Marne is treated through a sand filter, activated carbon, and UV before feeding the basins. The Regional Health Agency conducts regular sampling and analyses in parallel, and temporary closures remain possible if water quality declines. The Val-de-Marne prefecture also reminds that swimming remains formally prohibited outside the designated sites. For summer planning: the Saint-Maur-des-Fossés beach opens on June 20 as well, but only for a month, until July 19, 2026, while Champigny-sur-Marne beach will be open from July 4 to July 19, 2026.
