Cab drivers are mobilizing again this Wednesday in Versailles, starting at 9:30 a.m., to denounce a Health Insurance project concerning the pricing of patient transport. This reform, contested by the profession, has already provoked several actions in recent weeks. Traffic is expected to be difficult in downtown Versailles and surrounding towns, with possible disruption as far as the A13 freeway.
"Traffic will be disrupted in downtown Versailles, particularly on Avenue de Paris, from 9:30 am. The neighboring towns of Louveciennes, Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt and Saint Cyr l'école may also be affected from 9 a.m.", informs the Prefet des Yvelines.
The unions are denouncing a measure that is unfavorable to contract drivers, who would see their income reduced for journeys made on behalf of patients. This new pricing system, proposed by the French health insurance system, is seen as undermining the economic viability of their business. Coordinated actions have been underway for several weeks across the Paris region.
Avenue de Paris, Versailles' main thoroughfare, will be the gathering point for demonstrators. Local authorities are urging people toavoid the city center. Major disruptions are expected in neighboring communes such as Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt, Louveciennes and Saint-Cyr-l'École, and theA13 freeway could be affected by slow traffic.
In the absence of a satisfactory response from the public authorities, cab representatives are promising to continue their mobilization. Versailles is part of a series of regional demonstrations, with a schedule of actions likely to intensify in the coming days.
