Bad news for motorists in Essonne. The closure of the N118 is the result of an advanced deterioration of the sewage network under the roadway atOrsay, observed by teams from the Direction des Routes d'Île-de-France. This deterioration has caused a deformation of the carriageway in the province-Paris direction, making earthworks with complete opening of the carriageway essential to guarantee user safety.
In the Paris-province direction, the closure zone extends from the Christ de Saclay interchange (RD36) to the Guichet district, where the RER station is located. Access to the Saclay plateau will be maintained for local residents and businesses.
For the province-Paris direction, the closure extends between the A10 freeway and the university center exit at the Plateau de Saclay. This configuration avoids saturating Orsay town center with through traffic.
Heavy goods vehicles will be diverted via the RD36, the A126 and then the A10. For motorists coming from the provinces and heading for Paris, several alternative routes are proposed: the A10, the RD444, the A126 towards the Plateau de Saclay or the A86, depending on their final destination.
The authorities recommend anticipating journeys by rescheduling and monitoring traffic conditions in real time via the usual information channels, such as Sytadin. Traffic delays are expected on the A10 around Massy and Longjumeau, as well as on the RD36 and A126, particularly during rush hour.
The towns ofOrsay, Palaiseau, Villebon-sur-Yvette, Saclay and the Plateau de Saclay experience traffic delays during rush hour. Journey times can increase considerably, especially as this is the period when people are returning from vacation and preparing for the start of the new school year.
The Guichet station, an important hub for rail connections, could experience access disruptions. It is advisable to allow extra space for connections, and to avoid the outskirts of Orsay center, so as not to saturate the secondary network.
This emergency work on the N118, a route used daily by tens of thousands of vehicles, illustrates the importance of maintaining the infrastructure of the Paris region road network managed by DiRIF.
