Strike on October 2, 2025: RATP and SNCF disruptions in Paris and the Île-de-France region

Published by My de Sortiraparis · Updated on October 2, 2025 at 08:34 a.m.
The strike on October 2, 2025 looks set to be less widespread on public transport in the Paris region. RATP and SNCF forecasts predict disrupted traffic on some RER and Transilien lines, notably lines D and R. We take stock.

This Thursday, October 2, 2025, Ile-de-France transport users will have to deal with another day of mobilization, but disruptions are expected to be less extensive than during the September 18 strike. The intersyndicale, a grouping of eight major trade union organizations, is calling for a day of mobilization for social and fiscal justice throughout France. Following the failure of negotiations with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu at Matignon, the unions are maintaining their protest movement against the draft 2026 budget.

On Tuesday evening, Île-de-France Mobilités issued a reassuring forecast for transport services in Paris and the surrounding region. In contrast to September 18, when over 10,000 RATP employees stopped work, this new day should see a smaller mobilization. Metro and tramway services will run normally or almost normally throughout the network. Automatic metro lines 1, 4 and 14, which cannot be affected by the strikes, will operate as usual.

What traffic can be expected on TGV, TER and Intercités trains?

At SNCF, the Ministry of Transport has announced that traffic is expected to be little disrupted on the national rail network. TGV and Ouigo traffic is expected to be normal throughout France. There will, however, be some disruption to TER and Intercités services, depending on the region.

Stations closed for the demonstration

  • Les Gobelins: the station will close at 10 a.m.
  • Port-Royal: scheduled to close at noon.
  • Invalides: scheduled to close at noon.
  • Varenne: scheduled to close at noon.
  • La Tour-Maubourg: scheduled to close at noon.

Line-by-line traffic forecasts

RER

  • RER A: normal traffic
  • RER B: almost normal traffic within the RATP perimeter, with a few trains cancelled. The interconnection will be maintained at Gare du Nord.
  • RER C: traffic slightly disrupted with 3 trains out of 4
  • RER E: traffic disrupted with 2 trains out of 3. Following a technical incident, traffic is interrupted from Nanterre to Haussmann until midday.
  • RER D: traffic severely disrupted, with 1 train out of 2 between Creil and Corbeil-Essonnes and between Goussainville and Melun, 1 train out of 3 between Corbeil-Essonnes and Melun only during rush hour, and 1 train out of 3 between Juvisy and Malesherbes via Ris-Orangis.

Commuter trains

  • J line: normal traffic
  • Line K: normal traffic
  • P line: normal traffic
  • Line V: normal traffic
  • Line H: traffic slightly disrupted with 9 trains out of 10 on the entire line and 2 trains out of 3 between Pontoise and Creil
  • Line N: traffic slightly disrupted with 3 trains out of 4
  • Line L: traffic disrupted with 2 trains out of 3
  • Line U: traffic disrupted with 3 trains out of 5
  • Line R: traffic severely disrupted, with 1 train out of 2 between Paris and Montargis, 1 train out of 2 between Paris and Montereau via Moret only at peak times, and 1 train out of 3 between Melun and Montereau via Héricy only at peak times.

Transilien line R is likely to be the most affected of all, with longer journey times. Regular passengers on this line will have to anticipate and plan alternatives.

Metro

  • Normal traffic, no impact on the metro

Tramway

  • Normal traffic on all lines

Bus

  • Lines disrupted: several runs cancelled during the day in the morning and evening rush hours on lines A, B, C, D, F, L, T, 9 and 262 in the Sartrouville and Montesson sectors.

  • Fontainebleau sector: reduced service with 9 buses out of 10

We're going to have to be vigilant on the RER D, which will be experiencing severe traffic disruption according to SNCF forecasts. This line, which links the north and south of Paris via the major Paris stations, will require alternative solutions for Thursday journeys. Transilien line R will also be severely disrupted.

This mobilization follows a call by the CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, UNSA, FSU and Solidaires trade unions. The unions are calling for abandonment of the draft 2026 budget, which includes a doubling of medical deductibles and the elimination of 3,000 civil servant jobs. On the railways side, the four representative organizations of the SNCF - CGT Cheminots,UNSA Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail and CFDT Cheminots - have issued a joint leaflet calling for massive mobilization. At RATP, the four majority unions are also taking part in this day of action.

A demonstration is planned in the capital, starting from Place d'Italie in the 13th arrondissement at 2pm. The procession will reach Place Vauban near Les Invalides in the late afternoon, passing through Gobelins and Montparnasse. Users are advised to telecommute whenever possible, and to consult the RATP and SNCF Connect applications regularly for real-time traffic updates. Detailed forecasts are still available on the operators' websites, so that Parisians can plan their journeys for this special day.

Which lines were most affected by the strike on October 2?

The lines most affected by this day of action are the RER D and the R line of the Transilien, which will see heavy traffic disruption. The RER E and Transilien lines L, N and U will also experience significant disruption. On the other hand, the metro and streetcar network will be spared, with almost normal traffic levels on all lines, as will the RER A and B lines, the main commuter routes in the Paris region. This contrasts with the strike on September 18, when many metro lines only operated during rush hour.

How to get around during the strike on October 2?

To limit the inconvenience caused by the strike, several alternatives are available to people living in the Paris region. Telecommuting remains the preferred solution for those whose jobs allow it. The automatic metro lines 1, 4 and 14 will run normally and can be used as back-up lines. Carpooling via applications such as BlaBlaCar Daily or Karos is also an interesting option. Self-service bicycles and scooters offer a mobility solution for short distances, particularly in inner Paris.

Why is the October 2 strike being organized?

This latest day of mobilization follows the failure of negotiations with the government at Matignon on September 24. The intersyndicale denounces the absence of concrete answers from Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu on demands for the abandonment of the 2026 budget project. In particular, the unions are challenging the doubling of medical deductibles, the elimination of 3,000 civil servant positions and the reform of unemployment insurance. They are also calling for real tax justice, with increased taxation of large estates and very high incomes. This mobilization follows in the footsteps of September's social unrest, making for a particularly turbulent autumn in the Paris region.
