On September 18, 2025, many pharmacies are planning to close due to a massive strike. This time, however, it's likely to last a long time, as they also plan to close every Saturday from September 27.

If ever there was a day not to get sick, it's this September 18, 2025! A strike led by an intersyndicale of pharmacists' organizations has been announced, with massive mobilization for several months, at a time when a decree has been issued on the reduction of commercial discounts that laboratories grant to pharmacies on generic drugs, from 40% to 20%.

The strikers are opposed to the government order of August 3, which would compromise the economic health of pharmacies. In short, it would lead to even more shortages and supply difficulties than today, and weaken the economy of pharmacies, according to the union. The intersyndicale refers to a " fight to the death against pharmacists ", while the Union de syndicats de pharmaciens d'officine (USPO) is preparing " double legal proceedings against the State ".

The USPO has been calling for an unlimited strike since July 1, 2025. This movement is marked by days of total strike action: the unions are inviting pharmacists to close their establishments on August 16 and September 18. TheUSPO is also calling on pharmacists to join general demonstrations across France on September 18, 2025.

In addition to these actions, a pillbox strike has also been announced for September 18: certain pharmacies are responsible for filling and distributing doses of medication for Ehpad.

The strike will then continue, with pharmacies closed"every Saturday from September 27". You are asked to anticipate the renewal of your treatments to avoid any disappointment. In general, to deal with emergencies, some pharmacies have been requisitioned thanks to the night duty system, which has been extended during the day, but these are likely to be few and far between.
