As expected, September is a month of protest in France. Following on from the"Bloquons tout" (Let's block everything) movement, the intersyndicale is calling on French workers to strike and demonstrate this Thursday, September 18, 2025. In a joint press release, the UNSA, CFDT, CGT, FO, CGC, CFTC, Solidaires and FSU intend to take to the streets on September 18 to"solemnly" alert people to the situation of the country"which is sinking into a deep social and democratic crisis".
In its press release, the inter-union group demands budgetary resources"commensurate with the missions of public services and policies", as well as measures to combat job insecurity and strengthen solidarity,"investment in a fair ecological transition", tax justice with"the introduction of measures to tax large estates and very high incomes","high-level" social protection and the abandonment of the 64-year retirement age.
As a result, several rallies and demonstrations have been announced across France. In Paris, the inter-union demonstration is due to start at 2pm on September 18.
So, what is the detailed route planned in the capital? According to a press release issued by the Préfecture de police on September 17, the procession will set off from the Place de la Bastille. The demonstration will then head for boulevard Beaumarchais, boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, boulevard du Temple, place de la République, then boulevard Voltaire to reach place de la Nation, the final point of this major Parisian mobilization.
It remains to be seen whether protesters will respond to this call in large numbers or not. For the time being, disruptions have already been announced in many sectors, notably public transport.
