The strike on September 18, 2025 looks set to be particularly well-attended, with major disruptions forecast for the SNCF and RATP transport systems, the airline industry, schools, hospitals and pharmacies. Eight trade union confederations are calling for this cross-industry mobilization against the Bayrou budget.

The cross-industry strike on September 18, 2025 is mobilizing on a massive scale against the François Bayrou government's 43.8 billion savings plan. Rail and air transport, the RATP in Île-de-France, and pharmacies will be particularly hard hit by this day of national mobilization, which follows on from the "Bloquons tout" movement of September 10.

This nationwide mobilization brings together eight trade unions calling for a day of strikes and demonstrations on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The unions are protesting against what they describe as the government's "brutal" draft budget, denouncing measures that severely affect workers, the precariously employed and pensioners.

What disruption can you expect on SNCF trains?

Three major SNCF unions have called a strike for September 18. The CGT-Cheminots, the company's largest union, the CFDT-Cheminots and Unsa Ferroviaire are all taking part in the strike. According to early indications, SNCF is planning a major reduction in its service offering, particularly on long-distance lines and TGVs.

Passengers can expect numerous train cancellations and delays, particularly on busy routes between Paris and major cities. Transilien and TER traffic will also be severely disrupted. Only 30 to 40% of trains will be maintained on the TGV, TER, RER and Transilien networks.

What impact will this have on RATP's transport services in the Paris region?

In the Île-de-France region, the situation looks set to be complex. In a joint press release, the four majority RATP unions have joined the mobilization for September 18, 2025. The CGT, Force Ouvrière, Unsa-Mobilité and CFE-CGC are calling for "a massive day of strikes and demonstrations".

Major disruptions are therefore expected throughout the Paris metro, RER and bus network. Commuters should plan ahead and consult the official RATP and SNCF Connect websites for real-time information.
