Storm Benjamin is hitting Paris and the entire Île-de-France region on Thursday, October 23, 2025, with wind gusts reaching up to 100 km/h. In response to the strong winds, several municipalities in the Île-de-France region are closing their parks and gardens as a safety measure. Here is an update.

Storm Benjamin is hitting the Île-de-France region on Thursday, October 23, 2025, forcing many towns to take precautionary measures. Météo France has placed all eight departments in the Île-de-France region — Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, and Val-d'Oise — on yellow alert for high winds. Wind gusts are expected to reach between 85 and 100 km/h depending on the area, prompting the closure of many green spaces throughout the region.

In Paris, the city council has decided to close all its parks, gardens, squares, and cemeteries for the day on Thursday, October 23, until further notice. This preventive measure aims to protect walkers from the risk of falling trees and branches, which are particularly dangerous at this time of year when many trees still have their leaves. The authorities remind the public to avoid wooded areas and to limit travel to essential activities.

In the Yvelines, the situation is similar. The city of Versailles has announced the closure of its parks and gardens on Thursday due to adverse weather conditions. They will only reopen after inspection by teams of gardeners and the tree heritage manager, probably from Friday, October 24, depending on how the situation develops. This precaution is necessary in order to check the condition of the trees and secure the areas before reopening them to the public. This is also the case for the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, which will close their doors at noon.

In Hauts-de-Seine, all of the city's parks and gardens are also closing. This is the case for the Domaine du Parc de Sceaux and the Domaine de Saint Cloud, which has announced that its park will close at 1:00 p.m.

The following are affected:

  • Sceaux Departmental Park,
  • Henri-Sellier Departmental Park in Le Plessis-Robinson,
  • Colbert Pond in Plessis-Robinson,
  • Bois de la Garenne and Bois de la Solitude in Plessis-Robinson,
  • Vallée-aux-Loups Park (Chateaubriand House, arboretum, and wooded park) in Châtenay-Malabry
  • the banks of the Seine, including the Chemin-de-l'Île and Pierre-Lagravère departmental parks,
  • the Chanteraines departmental park in Villeneuve-la-Garenne and Gennevilliers,
  • the Pré Saint-Jean departmental sports park in Saint-Cloud,
  • the Jacques-Baumel departmental park and promenade (Mont-Valérien) in Suresnes, Rueil-Malmaison, and Nanterre,
  • the Folie Sainte-James departmental garden in Neuilly-sur-Seine,
  • the Île Saint-Germain departmental park in Issy-les-Moulineaux,
  • the Haras de Jardy departmental estate in Vaucresson,
  • the Marche ponds in Marnes-la-Coquette,
  • the Casimir-Davaine departmental park in Garches,
  • the Yves-du-Manoir stadium in Colombes,
  • Chazottes Stadium in Gennevilliers.

In Seine-Saint-Denis, the townof Aulnay-sous-Bois has also decided to close all its municipal parks and stadiums for the day on Thursday. As for the department, the eight departmental parks will be closed today. These are:

  • Georges-Valbon
  • Le Sausset
  • L’Ile-Saint-Denis
  • La Haute-Ile
  • La Poudrerie
  • La Fosse-Maussoin
  • Jean-Moulin – Les Guilands
  • La Bergère (access not recommended)

Nogent-sur-Marne, in Val-de-Marne, has indicated that its parks and gardens may be closed depending on weather conditions, with the possibility of outdoor activities being canceled.

The Jardin d'Acclimatation, located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, is one of the iconic sites closed on Thursday. This popular spot, close to the Bois de Boulogne, took this decision as a safety measure in response to the weather alert. Garden officials are inviting visitors to check their official website regularly for the reopening date.

And the list certainly doesn't end there, so be vigilant and check the announced closures. As a precaution, avoid wooded areas today.

Beyond the Île-de-France region, Storm Benjamin is affecting the whole of France. Similar closures have been decided in many cities such as Nantes, where 30 parks and gardens are closed, Orléans, Agen, La Rochelle and Poitiers. Coastal departments are particularly affected, with orange alerts in several regions and gusts of up to 130 km/h on the coast.

Transport in the Paris region is also affected by this weather phenomenon. Three Transilien lines are experiencing disruptions and delays are to be expected on several RER lines. The SNCF recommends that travelers check traffic conditions before traveling and plan their journeys in advance.

Météo France forecasts a gradual improvement in conditions from Friday, October 24, with a significant decrease in wind speed. Gusts should not exceed 55 km/h in the Île-de-France region, allowing for the gradual reopening of green spaces after inspection. The authorities remind the public to follow developments on the official Météo-France website and to observe safety instructions: secure objects that are sensitive to wind, avoid walking near trees, and postpone non-essential outdoor activities.

In short, Thursday is shaping up to be a turbulent day in the Île-de-France region. Although Storm Benjamin will not reach the intensity of major storms in the past, it nevertheless warrants all these precautions. It would be best to take advantage of this day to stay warm and postpone your walk in the park until tomorrow, when calm will have returned to the region. Walkers will then be able to return to their favorite gardens once municipal teams have checked that everything is in order.
