The Jardin des Plantes de Paris is a beloved spot for Parisians. This green retreat offers a wealth of activities and stroll-friendly trails for those seeking a touch of nature. The Jardin des Plantes naturally houses trees, flower beds and interesting plants, but there’s more to it than that! The site also hides the Ménagerie, which is Paris’s oldest zoo, along with specialized gardens, grand greenhouses and science and exhibition buildings.
When the weather is nice, Parisians like to enjoy the sunshine in this must-visit garden, with family or friends. But during this period of heatwave of July, several areas of the Jardin des Plantes are closed to the public.
During the second week of July, an extraordinary heatwave took hold across France. Temperatures spiked above 40°C in places, and the heatwave shows no signs of letting up soon. With the risks posed by this extreme weather, numerous tourist attractions have shortened their hours or opted to stay closed to visitors.
Thus, at the Jardin des Plantes, several areas are closed to visitors starting Saturday, July 11, 2026, through the end of the heat‑wave alert. This includes the Grandes Serres du Jardin des Plantes, the Ménagerie, the Galerie de Minéralogie, the Jardin alpin and the École de botanique. The Grande Galerie de l'Évolution, at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, remains open to the public.
As this heatwave unfolds, the closure could be extended or renewed. Check the official Jardin des Plantes website for more information.
