The Grandes Eaux nocturnes at the Château de Versailles, awaited last night, Saturday, June 27, 2026, in the Yvelines (78), were canceled. The reason: a violent storm that hit the department late in the day, making outdoor promenades among the groves impossible. A postponement was offered to ticket holders. The Grand Bal masqué, however, was able to go ahead inside the Orangery.
It’s not the heatwave but the storm that had the final say. After a week of extreme heat, Île-de-France tipped Saturday afternoon into a violent thunderstorm episode. Météo-France placed the region under vigilance orange orages, with strong gusts (up to 100 km/h in some areas), hail, and heavy rain over Yvelines.
The Grandes Eaux nocturnes unfold outdoors, weaving through the groves, with a pyrotechnic finale that proved untenable in the lightning and gusts. The event was canceled on June 27 for safety reasons.
That’s the question on ticket holders’ minds. For this missed session, the organizers offered a report instead of a refund. If you were affected, you should have received an email detailing the terms, sent directly from your account dashboard.
We recommend keeping an eye on your inbox (and your spam folder) and contacting the Château de Versailles Spectacles ticket office at 01 30 83 78 89 if in doubt. The official information for the Grandes Eaux nocturnes remains the reference to follow.
Good news for masked revelers: yes. While the garden segment fell through, the Grand Masked Ball was able to be held inside the Orangery, shielded from the elements. For its 14th edition, the venue transformed into a giant dance floor, with RB Dance Company at the helm, featuring dancers, performers and a club-night atmosphere that lasts until dawn.
Participants were thus able to don masks and baroque costumes as planned, but they were unable to enjoy the magical stroll among the illuminated fountains.
Versailles wasn’t the only Yvelines site to buckle under the storms. In Élancourt, the free 90s concert was halted at the end of the first act: all spectators were evacuated at 9:00 PM, just as the thunderstorm cells moved into the area. Outdoor evening events were upended by the sudden gusts and downpours.
In Paris, the parks and gardens were shuttered and the Canal Saint-Martin swimming area was cleared at 5:00 PM. Treize'Estival also canceled its show originally planned for Parc de Choisy.
The good news is that the disturbance cleared out overnight from Saturday to Sunday, making way for calmer weather. Note, however, that the entire Île-de-France area remains under vigilance jaune orages today. Versailles and its illuminated fountains will be waiting for us, with masks and baroque costumes in tow for a forthcoming, more agreeable evening.
