Schedule change for the National Day in Seine-et-Marne. The prefecture has now banned all fireworks on July 14, 2026, as well as torchlight processions and festive fires, across the entire department. The blanket ban takes effect Friday, July 10, 2026 at noon and remains in force through Wednesday, July 15, 2026 inclusive. It applies to all outdoor spaces, public or private, with no exceptions announced in the new decree.
The measure is stricter than the one announced a few days earlier. A first arrêté préfectoral dated July 8 primarily banned fireworks launches whose launch site stood within 200 meters of a sensitive natural space. Displays organized well away from forests, woods, crops and risk zones could therefore still be planned. This is no longer the case: the new Seine-et-Marne decree, published this Friday, July 10, extends the prohibition to the entire department.
In detail, the rule bans entertainment fireworks in categories F1 to F4 as well as pyrotechnic articles in categories T1 and T2. Shows organized by municipalities and professionals are therefore covered, just as the small fireworks used by private individuals. The ban also extends to lighting bonfires, campfires, and, more broadly, outdoor festive fires.
This decision comes as weather conditions clearly deteriorate across the department. Seine-et-Marne has been placed on orange alert for "fire danger" since July 7, 2026. The entire Île-de-France region is also set to move to vigilance rouge canicule starting at noon on Saturday, July 11.
After weeks of scarce rainfall and high temperatures, vegetation and soils are exceptionally dry. In this tinder-dry landscape, even the incandescent sparks from a firework can ignite a fire and fuel its rapid spread. Forecasts from Météo-France indicate a severe risk of forest and natural-area fires on July 10 and in the days to come.
The departmental fire and rescue service is also facing a sharp rise in interventions linked to fire outbreaks in forest and agricultural areas. The objective announced by the state services is therefore to safeguard the SDIS’s resources. In the midst of a heatwave, rescue teams must stay on call to respond quickly to the public and confront the consequences of the scorching episode.
During the period covered by the order, the processing and granting of special permits to use pyrotechnics are suspended. In other words, a town or organizer cannot seek an exemption to keep the show running between July 10 and 15. Law enforcement can issue fines to violators and seize any pyrotechnic equipment used in breach of the order.
This broad ban means the cancellation or postponement of the fireworks already announced in several municipalities in Seine-et-Marne. Some events had already taken steps ahead. In Lagny-sur-Marne, Dammarie-les-Lys, Coulommiers, Mormant, Chelles, Nemours, and Mesnil-Amelot, pyrotechnic shows are cancelled or rescheduled. Several towns, however, choose to keep their concerts, popular dances, republican banquets and family activities. The evenings of July 13 and 14 thus do not disappear entirely, but they take on a different shape.
At the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, the fireworks give way to a drone show staged as part of the candlelit evening. It’s an alternative that keeps a skyward moment alive without relying on traditional pyrotechnic displays.
Before heading to a town celebration, it’s best to check the town hall’s website or social media. If fireworks are banned, some activities may be kept, moved, or adapted at the last minute. The situation isn’t limited to the department. Essonne, Val-d’Oise and Yvelines are also banning fireworks until July 15. In this heatwave context, caution takes precedence over bright bursts. This year, to celebrate the National Day in Seine-et-Marne, people are instead turning to dances, concerts, communal meals and shows without fireworks.
