After a disrupted weekend on October 17 and 18, Paris is preparing for the second round of major protests this autumn. People are planning to meet at Place de la Bastille on Saturday, October 24, 2026 for another protest against the government and its economic and social policies.
Tensions have been rising in France for a week. The demonstrations on October 17 ended in violence and property damage. In response, the government has introduced partial curfews and bans on gatherings around certain strategic locations.
Numerous unions and social movements turned out for the October 24 demonstration. Anticipating further unrest, several businesses and tourist attractions therefore decided to close for the day on Saturday to protect workers, visitors and buildings.
In Paris, museums, shops and monuments have announced that they will be exceptionally closed this Saturday. Among them is the Arc de Triomphe, a must-see monument standing at the top of the Champs-Élysées, on Place de l'Étoile. No visits will be possible this Saturday, October 24, 2026; the Arc is completely closed to the public.
Unless announced otherwise, the monument is expected to reopen on Sunday, October 25. Before setting off, check opening hours on the official website. If you bought a ticket for Saturday, October 24, there’s good news: you will be automatically refunded. On its website, the Arc de Triomphe states: « In the event of an exceptional closure, e-tickets purchased through the Centre des monuments nationaux’s online ticket office are automatically refunded to the bank account that was charged. There is no need to file a claim. Please note that processing may take some time. »
