Chana Orloff (1888-1968) was born in the Ukraine and grew up in Palestine before moving to Paris in 1910. It was in the French capital that she developed her talent for sculpture and became an internationally recognized artist. In 1926, she acquired a studio at 7, Villa Seurat in Paris, where she worked and lived until the end of her life. This studio became a meeting place for artists and intellectuals of the time, such as Modigliani, Soutine, Brancusi and many others.
Since 1998, this historic workshop has been transformed into a museum dedicated to the work of Chana Orloff. During the Nuit des Musées 2026, visitors will have the chance to explore a diverse collection of her sculptures, drawings, and engravings, showcasing the evolution of her artistic style and techniques. It’s a perfect opportunity for an enriching experience and to discover this hidden gem of Paris’s artistic heritage during the Nuit des Musées 2026!
From the Seurat Villa, at night, the shadows of Chana Orloff’s sculptures faintly emerge.
This May evening, visitors will have the unique opportunity to connect directly with the gentle spirits of the Seurat Villa! Built by Auguste Perret for the renowned artist Chana Orloff, the home houses over 200 of her works. Strategic lighting enhances the contrast between light and shadow, emphasizing the interplay of fullness and emptiness on the walls. This immersive display offers a playful way to explore or rediscover the art of a creator who left a lasting mark on 20th-century art history.
