Another Fête de la musique! Every year, this popular and festive event celebrates live music with free concerts all over France. In the Yvelines region, Versailles is once again taking part in this popular and festive event, offering a not-to-be-missed evening of free concerts on Saturday June 21, 2025 at several venues around the city.
The atmosphere promises to be as warm as it is eclectic this Saturday, with an evening designed as a great moment of sharing for families and young people. From 5 p.m. to midnight, several of the city's landmarks will be lit up to the rhythm of open-air concerts, between the Notre-Dame and Saint-Louis districts. Edgar de Sacy, co-founder of the Nuits Blondes, has announced a carefully-curated program of events designed to get the streets of Versailles buzzing.
On the main stage, set up for the occasion, we discover Louis Bekk, rising figure of the French Touch, preceded by Ismatricule, whose funk set promises a groovy and generous live show. Then there's Premier Métro, winner of the Versailles Live 2023 springboard, and Polyphone, winner of the 2024 edition, not to mention performances by Sans Lactose and DJ Palomina. A lively and contrasting line-up, true to the festive and accessible spirit of the event.
Families are not left out: a small village of food-trucks is set up to satisfy the curious and gourmets between two concerts. And throughout the city, the musical ambience multiplies: rock and metal in Cathedral Square, Eurodance in the gardens of the Town Hall, every district seems to find its own soundtrack for this night of music. If the weather holds out, the whole city will become an open-air stage.
A convivial event, part of an accessible approach to cultural discovery, to be enjoyed with friends or family. It's a great way to enjoy a neighborhood party with a Versailles twist.
So how did the Fête de la musique come about ? In 1982, a major survey of French cultural practices revealed that five million people, including one young person in two, played a musical instrument, whereas the musical events organized up to that point concerned only a minority of French people. With this in mind, Jack Lang, Minister of Culture at the time, Christian Dupavillon, architect and scenographer, and Maurice Fleuret, appointed Director of Music and Dance in 1981, came up with the idea of a major popular event to give all musicians the opportunity to express themselves and make themselves known. The very first Fête de la Musique took place on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
More than 40 years later, the traditional Fête de la Musique continues to delight the crowds every June 21, thanks to its rich and eclectic musical program. So what can we expect this year? While there's no shortage of good music deals in Paris, there's also plenty to choose from elsewhere in the Île-de-France region.
From rock to metal in the Place de la Cathédrale Saint-Louis, from house-electro in the gardens of the Hôtel de Ville, from pop to house on the Avenue de Saint-Cloud, not forgetting the Avenue de Paris... The city of Versailles is transformed into an open-air stage. Discover the program and let yourself be carried away by the music!
