Historically, Music Day has its roots in France. Started in 1982 by French Culture Minister Jack Lang, the event aims to celebrate music in all its forms. Every year, on June 21st—the summer solstice—streets, squares, and public spaces transform into open-air stages where musicians and music lovers gather to share their passion and perform live. Music Day quickly spread beyond France, becoming an international celebration of musical diversity and artistic expression. It brings millions of people together in a collective joy, creating a true human symphony!
Over the course of these two days, Georges-Pompidou Road transforms into an electric and summer-inspired vibe! Latin rhythms, reggaeton, and electronic music are on the playlist, with various shows planned to create a lively, friendly atmosphere. Since 2017, the Georges-Pompidou Road, closed to traffic between the entrance of the Tuileries Tunnel and the exit of the Henri IV Tunnel, runs along the Seine. It is one of Paris's most iconic streets, offering stunning views of famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Named after former French President Georges Pompidou, this pathway is a favorite for Parisians and visitors alike. Lined with trees, parks, and landscaped quays, it’s the perfect spot for walking or cycling adventures!
