Nuit Blanche 2026: the program at the Paris Sewer Museum:

  • Mathild Clerc-Verhoeven / Urban Membrane
    From Saturday, June 6, 2026 to Sunday, June 7, 2026: Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

    Installation, Sculpture, Exhibition
Urban membrane transforms a portion of the underground galleries of the Museum of Sewers into an interactive environment organized around flow, feedback, and upkeep. The piece comprises several kinetic works and follows a core principle inspired by how several infrastructure-clearing tools operate: no external motors are used — all motion is driven either by hydraulic energy or human action. The whole is accompanied by a soundscape built from the voices of sewer workers.

A 15-meter-long gutter, woven from carbon fiber and a plastic sheet, is suspended from the ceiling. Each fixing point can be independently rotated from the floor to raise or lower the gutter and set a marble in motion inside.

A 3 m × 9 m weave in carbon fibers is displayed beneath the Alma vault. It hangs from multiple cords, one end of each cord connected to a wheel fixed to the wall. Visitors can operate the installation by turning the wheel.

A wooden and carbon fiber wheel hangs above the current.

A text by writer and filmmaker Jasper Coppes accompanies the installation, offering a narrative frame that highlights the different dimensions the work engages: the lived experience of sewer workers, the feedback mechanisms, and the circulation of fluids and information.
In partnership with Jasper Coppes (curator) as well as Hélène Clerc-Denizot and Léo Baqué for sound and light.
With the support of Stimuleringfonds, Saertex, Saint-Gobain, Vetrotex.
