Volunteers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games won't be the best off during the competition, since although they're totally volunteers, they'll have to "manage" not only to find accommodation, but also to pay for their transport.

The inter-ministerial delegate for the Games, Michel Cadot, has been very clear that volunteervolunteers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will have to "fend for themselves" both in terms of paying for their public transport during the competition andfinding accommodation in the Paris region. "The volunteers knew they weren't being paid or accommodated. They knew they'd have to fend for themselves," he added. 45,000 people will be mobilized, but not compensated, and will have to rely on their relatives to find a roof over their heads.

"This constraint was laid down from the outset", said the delegate to the Senate, who believes that the accommodation search zone can be extended well beyond the Paris region. But as the competition approaches, rental prices are soaring, on Airbnb as well as in the region's hotels and campsites. As far as transport is concerned, Paris City Hall had asked for free transport, at least for volunteers, following the introduction of a special JO fare that was higher than usual.

These volunteers are expected to number 30,000 for the Olympic Games and 15,000 for the Paralympics, to look after the athletes and spectators at the Olympic venues. The city of Paris is hoping to recruit around 5,000 more to look after the festivities areas, the media center and the approach areas to the venues, to direct visitors.
