The cult filmmaker behind "Mother and Whore" will be celebrated on June 7, 2023, through the re-release of ten of his films in theaters.

The re-release of Jean Eustache's La Maman et la Putain, almost fifty years after its first run in theaters, had been a surprise success, during the spring of 2022. With its 30,000 admissions in a dozen theaters, it was one of the biggest box office re-releases of the year. This success opened the way for the rest of Jean Eustache's filmography.

The filmmaker is celebrated, on June 7, 2023, with the re-release of ten of his films, restored in 4K version, on the occasion of a unique retrospective.

The program of the retrospective

  • Bad company (1963)
  • Santa Claus has blue eyes (1965)
  • The Rose of Pessac (1968)
  • The Pig (1970)
  • Number Zero / Odette Robert (1971)
  • The Mother and the Whore (1973)
  • My Little Lovers (1974)
  • A Dirty Story (1977)
  • La Rosière de Pessac 79 (1979)
  • The Photos of Alix (1980)

This is an opportunity to discover more about almost 20 years of French cinema history, and about a filmmaker long relegated to the background and outcast, because of his sometimes sulphurous films, as was notably the case for La Maman et la Putain.
