Goodbye Julia, the first film by Sudanese director Mohamed Kordofani, was presented in the Un Certain Regard selection at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, and went home with the Prix de la Liberté. The story follows Mona, a retired singer from northern Sudan, who seeks redemption after covering up a murder by taking in the widow of the deceased, Julia, and her son, Daniel.
The film stars Eiman Yousif, Siran Riak, Nazar Goma and Ger Duany in the lead roles. Set just before the secession of South Sudan, the film explores themes of guilt, strained marriage and the search for redemption.
