In 2025, more than 780 cinemas across 700 towns in France broadcast live the Cannes Film Festival ceremony and opening film. For this 79th edition of the industry’s premier event, running from May 12 to 23, 2026, it’s a repeat performance!
This year again, an initiative launched by the Cannes Film Festival, in partnership with France Télévisions, the National Federation of French Cinemas and the CNC - with the friendly support of AFCA - will take place on Tuesday evening, May 12, in cinemas across Paris and the Île-de-France region. Among them, the mk2 Odéon, the mk2 Bibliothèque and the mk2 Nation.
All participating cinemas will screen the ceremony hosted by Eye Haïdara and highlighted by the presence of a stellar guest of honor, the New Zealand filmmaker, producer and screenwriter Peter Jackson, who is set to receive a Palme d'Or d'honneur for his career.
But that's not all, as the opening film, La Vénus électrique by Pierre Salvadori, will also be screened at the end of the opening ceremony. Also, if you're a hardcore cinephile but can't make it to the Festival de Cannes 2026, here's a way to participate, remotely, in this three-star event!
