The Cannes Classics selection for the 2024 Festival will open with 'Napoléon vu par Abel Gance', screened as a world premiere in a restored version. The full program has also just been unveiled!

In addition to the Official Selection, the Filmmakers' Fortnight, Critics' Week andAcid, Cannes 2024 will feature an additional section, Cannes Classics, dedicated to tributes and restorations. From May 14 to 25, these special screenings of heritage films will make way for the classics. This will be an opportunity to discover new restorations, documentaries and special events.

And it's a cinema legend, Napoléon vu par Abel Gance, who will have the task of opening Cannes Classics. This film, one of the most important of silent cinema , will be shown on May 14 in its world premiere, in a restored version produced by the Cinémathèque française with the support of the CNC.

It took over 16 years of work to bring this film-opera extravaganza back to life, restoring it to its former glory. The 7-hour film is divided into two epochs, and only the First Epoch will be screened at Cannes Classics. The restored film will subsequently be released in French cinemas and on Netflix.

Numerous artists are also expected to present works from the Cannes Classics program at this year's Festival de Cannes 2024. They include Faye Dunaway, Wim Wenders, Sylvia Chang, Costa-Gavras, Raymond Depardon, Marco Bellocchio, Ron Howard, Frederick Wiseman, Dong-ho Kim, Montxo Armendáriz, and many more.
