A French film will have the honor of opening Critics' Week 2024, which runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival 2024, from May 15 to 23. The film is none other than Jonathan Millet's debut Les Fantômes.
Presented in its world premiere, prior to its release in French cinemas on July 3, 2024, Les Fantômes tells the story of Hamid, a member of a secret organization that tracks down Syrian war criminals hiding in Europe. His quest leads him to Strasbourg on the trail of his former tormentor. The film, starring Adam Bessa and Tawfeek Barhom, is inspired by true events.
This is Jonathan Millet's first feature film, following several short films - including Et toujours nous marcherons in 2016 - and documentaries, such as Ceuta, douce prison, released in 2014, Dernières nouvelles des étoiles, shot in Antarctica, and La disparition, shot in Amazonia.
For several years, the director travelled alone, camera in hand, through over fifty countries around the world.
