The Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2024 will open on May 15 with an event film, the latest from French director Sophie Fillières, who passed away last summer. Ma vie ma gueule, to be released in cinemas on September 18, 2024, features a fine French cast, including Agnès Jaoui, Philippe Katerine and Édouard Sulpice.
Barberie Bichette, known to her chagrin as Barbie, may have been beautiful, may have been loved, may have been a good mother to her children, a reliable colleague, a great lover, yes, maybe... Today, it's dark, it's violent, it's absurd and it terrifies her: she's 55 (so much for 60 and soon more!). It was inevitable, but how do you deal with yourself, with death, with life in short?
The Quinzaine des Cinéastes review: "The opening film of Quinzaine 2024 is Barbie, masterfully played by Agnès Jaoui in Sophie Fillières' magnificent final film, Ma vie ma gueule. Three moments in a woman's life: a comedy, a tragedy, an epiphany, all of which are carried out with a bang, with the breaks in tone and punchy dialogue that have always been the hallmark of Fillières' cinema. It's also a terribly moving work, since it's a very intimate self-portrait to which Agnès Jaoui lends body and soul."
