Young Japanese director Yôko Yamanaka, who has made several short films and released Amiko in 2017, will present Desert of Namibia, her new second feature, at Cannes 2024. The film has been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, one of the festival's parallel sections.
The Quinzaine des Cinéastes review: "In her second feature, director Yôko Yamanaka pulls out all the stops. Namibia no sabaku follows a bipolar young woman who burns the candle at both ends. A cinema that is not lacking in similarities with Nobuhiro Suwa's early films."
