Delicacy and lightness are the order of the day in Good One, the first film by writer-director India Donaldson, which has been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes 2024, the parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival.
The cast of this apprenticeship film includes Lily Collias in the lead role, alongside James LeGros and Danny McCarthy. To date, India Donaldson has directed three short films: Medusa, Hannahs and If Found.
During a weekend hike in the Catskills Mountains, the film follows 17-year-old Sam as he confronts the selfishness of his father and oldest friend.
La Quinzaine des Cinéastes ' review: "India Donaldson's first film, Good One takes 17-year-old Sam on a trek through the Catskills, where she is forced to accompany her father and his friend for the weekend. A portrait of an intergenerational chasm, this delicate coming-of-age manages to make two irreconcilable worlds coexist by staying as close as possible to its characters. A light, bucolic stroll carried by a formidable actress."
